The Richmond Ivy was the talk of the town last night as they took the pitch for their very first match as a club. Made of many, the team's official slogan, represents the club’s namesake twisting vines that grow in bunches as they tangle and climb; but as fans filled every seat in the stands, it became clear that this club was truly made of many as well. The Ivy’s roster represents players from more than 15 different universities and clubs including Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, James Madison, Florida State, Oklahoma State, Lynchburg, South Carolina, the Richmond Strikers and more! Despite their varied backgrounds, the team came together for a 1-0 win in their first game at City Stadium!
Unable to score in the first half, the Ivy, still holding the Marauders at zero, came out in the second determined to score. As the rain drizzled onto the field, the players battled on, undeterred by the weather. In the 84th minute, as midfielder Brianna Behm slotted the ball into the net, a glimmer of sunlight pierced through the clouds, casting a rainbow over the field. It was a picturesque moment as the sold out City Stadium came to a deafening roar of excitement! The Richmond Ivy made their mark on the fans last night and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us when they take the pitch again next thursday!
